As autumn begins and temperatures begin to drop, we always feel a shift in mindset as we look ahead to all that the season is going to offer. With the leaves turning from green to reds, oranges, and yellows, there is nothing more beautiful than a crisp fall day. While we may not always see a drastic change between seasons in Charleston, that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the beauty of the season by bringing some fall decor into our homes.
As the mantel is a focal point of the living room, this is a place that frequently gets an update to coincide with the seasons. Once December hits, you’ll surely pull out the garland, but until then, enjoy some of these fall-inspired mantel decoration ideas.
Rustic Foliage
There’s so much to love about this season when it comes to the natural bounty it brings. This mantel idea celebrates this idea. To begin, place two thick wooden objects like candlesticks as the anchor for your display. You can then either forage for some gorgeous branches and leaves or buy some at your local florist and arrange these around the candlesticks. Berry branches are particularly lovely this time of year and add an exciting textural element to your room. If you like, you can finish this arrangement by hanging ivy like it is a garland off the edges of your mantel.
Table to Mantel
Another fun option for decorating your mantel is to use gourds, squash, muted-color pumpkins, pears, and an assortment of nuts. This delicious display is achieved by placing the largest gourds first, preferably one on each end of the mantel, approximately ¾ of the way to the end. From there, you can fill in the gaps with candles, branches, loose berries, and nuts. If you want a focal point, you can set a wooden tray, like our Dough Tray in the center and fill this with foliage.
Pumpkin Spice
While we probably have all had enough of seeing things labeled “Pumpkin spice,” an enchanting pumpkin display on your mantel never gets old. While you can arrange your pumpkins any way you like, we recommend setting three medium-sized pumpkins together in the middle and then adding many smaller pumpkins of various sizes around the outside. It’s a foolproof formula for a family-friendly mantel that will last until December.
Candles
Light up the dark nights with a candle-filled mantel that is charming and beautiful. This mantel idea is perfect for Halloween and beyond. It embraces the concept of hygge, where you create a cozy atmosphere at home with soft lighting and a warm ambiance. We recommend placing candles within containers, like our Tammy Hurricane Lamp, mason jars, or our Claire Candleholders to avoid causing a fire. Arrange these all the way across the mantel for the most striking effect. You can always use flameless candles if you wish. For anyone without a working fireplace, you can also put candles within the fireplace area and light those for a truly breathtaking display.
All White
Tired of the classic fall colors of red, orange, and brown? If you love a chic aesthetic, we recommend trying a monochromatic white mantel. While this doesn’t sound like your typical fall decor, trust us, it can be really beautiful as it makes a statement that will wow your guests. Start by adding candlesticks or a stylish white set of bookends, like our Charbel Bookends to one side of the mantel. Build from there, adding white pumpkins, hydrangeas, small votives, and other artistic elements. Our set of 2 white Urchin Vases are particularly charming and reminiscent of gourds. You can even throw a white teacup in there somewhere to allude to the coziness of the season. As this mantelpiece is incredibly stylish, you can add gold accents like our Stet Set of 3 Gold Spheres to fully embrace the glamour.
