Holiday Hosting: Setting the Perfect Table for Festive Gatherings

Magical decor brings happy holiday memories. During the fall and winter, there is nothing better than having friends and family all come together in a beautiful space. Creating an ambiance that is festive and warm will set the stage as you toast to this fun time of year. While decorating your doorstep provides a welcome first sight, don’t forget all the details inside the house! To set a dreamy holiday table, we concentrate on getting the following ideas just right.

Create a Statement with Your Centerpiece

When in doubt, always start at the middle of your table and work your way out. The centerpiece is not only in the center, it’s also typically what catches the eye first. To create your centerpiece, it helps to have a theme in mind. You might create one large arrangement of seasonal florals or places candles or small vases along the table. A lush garland, fruit, ornaments, and sculptural objects can also be used to create your holiday display.

Play with Verticality

If you want to make your table really stand out, it needs to have height. Slender candlesticks, elegant wine glasses, and vases with tall flowers will draw the eye upward, adding a sense of grandeur to the table. Not everything needs to be tall, but make sure that a few pieces do add that sense of verticality.

Layer in Cozy Textures

Adding rich textures to your tablescape provides an instant autumnal feel. For example, you might incorporate elements like rattan placemats or rope chargers, a woven runner, and dried foliage. To offset these more rustic textures, create a sense of freshness with white plates and linen napkins. Finally, you might even add a soft blanket or seat cushion to each chair so that your guests feel extra cozy.

Serve a Festive House Cocktail

Surprise your guests with a house cocktail that fits your festive theme. From classic mulled wine to a Mistletoe Margarita, there are so many delicious recipes that will set the mood for your holiday dinner or event. The only rule is that you must serve your cocktails in a beautiful glass! Our Amalia Champagne Flutes should do the trick!

Decorate the Room

While your table is the focal point of your dining room, we recommend decorating around the rest of the room – and the home, for that matter. Hang wreaths on your sideboard, garlands over mirrors and bannisters, and bows on doorknobs and candlesticks. Keep the holiday vibes flowing throughout the house.

Creating an Unforgettable Table

Don’t forget the small, personal touches that really take your table to the next level. Once you’ve finished your centerpiece and placed your linens and tableware, consider adding namecards and a little gift for each guest. You can find everything you need – from the finishing details to the table itself at our three home stores. We’ll help you create the most memorable holiday table yet!
