Our favorite summer holiday is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited to plan our picnics and backyard gatherings. This year, we’re planning to pull out all the stops to create a luxurious tablescape that is patriotic with a twist. We hope to surprise our guests and inspire you to create your own stunning version for your celebration.
Here’s how to upgrade your annual gathering with a tablescape as impressive as your fireworks display.
Take Stock of What You Have
Before heading out to buy all new accessories for your table, pull out all your red, white, and blue tableware and linens and consider how you might be able to mix and match them with new pieces. You might find some blue glass vases that you’d forgotten about, or realize that your lace white tablecloth is perfect for the occasion. Even after you’ve chosen the foundational elements for your tablescape, keep the rest of your decor on hand in case you need them later.
Think Outside the Box
We’re all very familiar with red gingham and blue stripes. However, if you want to elevate your table, add some elements that no one is expecting but that still loosely fit the theme. For example, we love the idea of using blue Chinoiserie-inspired plates like our Country Estate Set of 4 Dinner Plates alongside bright garden roses. You can then add in red-rimmed glasses or a striped table runner for a punch of color that ties into the theme.
Florals
Fresh flowers are a timeless choice for your table centerpieces. If you have a more intimate table, you can create one large eye-catching centerpiece for the middle. If your table is long, we recommend using smaller vases, like our Hibiscus Glass Bud Vase to space flowers out along your table. Try using flowers that are in season in your area—we love roses, dahlias, and hydrangeas for July.
Colorful Glassware
The use of colored glassware began during The Great Depression when people were looking for ways to brighten their lives during a difficult time. In a myriad of shapes and colors, the bright glassware trend has had a recent resurgence and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. As they catch the light, there’s something wonderfully festive about colored glasses. If you find some in blue or red, you can use them on your 4th of July table and beyond.
Add a Party Favor
You can keep your table elegant while still embracing the lighthearted flair of this particular holiday with a fun party favor. A simple one is to place a small flag inside their napkin, as was done here. You could also add a box of sparklers at every table setting. After dinner, all your guests can light their sparklers as they toast the evening!
The Menu
Once your table is set, it’s time to choose some delicious, on-theme menu options. Start with a festive cocktail, like Triple Berry Sparklers which can be set up in advance on a bar cart. Whether you’re inclined to serve classic 4th of July foods like BBQ, sweet corn, and hot dogs, or are planning a more upscale menu, there’s one thing that we can all agree on: dessert must include strawberries!
Happy Fourth from GDC
Whether you’re looking for the perfect plates or need help finding a thoughtful host gift, we’re always here to make suggestions to bring your gathering to life. Everyone’s tablescape will look different, but the important thing is that it makes you and your guests happy. At the heart of it all, the 4th of July is a time to celebrate the independence of our country as well as spend time with those we love. We’re wishing you a safe, fun-filled holiday with family and friends from all of us here at GDC.
