From Mantel to Table: Coordinating Holiday Decor Across Your Home

If you’re someone who can’t wait to decorate for the winter holidays until after Thanksgiving, we hear you. Creating a winter wonderland at home not only gets the festive season started, but it keeps spirits high throughout the season.

There’s a certain nostalgia that comes from reusing holiday decorations, but if you haven’t switched up your decor for many years, it might be time for a refresh. Creating a bold, new holiday decor scheme can reignite your enthusiasm for this time of year and give your guests a fun surprise in the process!

Choose a Theme for Your Home

As a foundation for your holiday decor, start by selecting an overarching theme. From chic all-white decor, to the cozy familiarity of traditional reds and greens, themes make it easier to choose decorations for each room. We also love a plaid theme, a frosty blue theme, and a shimmering metallic theme as they all feel elevated and timeless.

Create a Welcoming Entry

Your entryway sets the tone for the rest of your home, so it’s a must when you are decorating. Start by placing a festive wreath on the front door with a complementary doormat and work outwards from there. You can place little Christmas trees on either side of the doorway and drape garlands along the porch railings. But, don’t forget the lighting! Some decorative lanterns and twinkle lights around columns or trees will create a warm and inviting first impression.

Decide the Focal Points

Before you go any further, decide on the main areas of the home that need decorations and prioritize those first. Some key areas include the mantel, stair railing, kitchen bar, dining room, and living room. Some ideas for the mantel include hanging garlands and stockings, and placing candles and ornaments in a decorative arrangement. You can then wrap matching garlands or lights around the stair railing. After decorating your focal points, use leftover ribbons and non-breakable ornaments to decorate windowsills and doorknobs.

Set the Table(s)

Create an elegant holiday tablescape on all of your tables with coordinating dinnerware sets and tabletop pieces that leads you from one room to the next. Make your table really magical with holiday-themed linens, a grand centerpiece and personalized touches like ornaments that serve as name cards. Pay Attention to Scale

Typically, decorations should be kept to scale with your home. A tree that is too big will make your space feel cramped while one that is too small will feel underwhelming. The same applies to ornaments, stockings, and centerpieces. It’s tempting to buy every size and shape of holiday decor you see, but remember that restraint is key in creating a refined holiday decor scheme.
